How to Create Robust Apps with Bizagi Live Processes

This blog is a recap of June's live Ask the Process Professor session: Bizagi Spring 2022 – How to Share a Process to Live Processes.

Companies deal with significant challenges daily, trying to satisfy new market requirements and clients’ needs. Unfortunately, resources with advanced technical skills are limited. It is impossible to rely on them for every business requirement, especially when requests are clearly higher than the resources available. Indeed, Gartner identified that “IT executives see the talent shortage as the most significant adoption barrier to 64% of emerging technologies.”

A new strategy is required, and two possible approaches are available. You can select a tactical approach using the same old traditional methods where manual coding is the main protagonist and implementation times are long and painful. You focus on fixing individual problems in isolation and apply multiple digital band-aids to improve particular points in the organization, but forget the wider picture.

On the other hand, you can take a more strategic approach, where your top priority is to define a way of delivering value quickly to your company with Business and IT working together. You must put a common platform and language in place to aid collaboration and accelerate innovation. Orchestration of people, processes, systems, and bots, will set you on the right path.

Enabling collaboration with Bizagi

March 24th, 2022: a milestone date. Bizagi entered a new era as we launched our trailblazing cloud-only release of our Low-Code Process Automation Platform. Bizagi Spring 2022 is here and marks the beginning of a fantastic new journey for us and all our users.

In this new version, we have put all our effort into creating a low-code process automation platform that is powerful, unifying, and intuitive for all. This new version has plenty of new features and improvements that will help your organization to align your objectives with a strategic approach to today’s challenges.

We have been promoting the Citizen Developer Revolution for some time now. We believe providing the right tools to the full spectrum of Citizen Developers is required if you want to enable more people to address business requirements. If companies face a technical talent shortage, we must build, train and empower business users to enlist and support the revolution. One of our platform features that help this strategy is Live Processes.

What are Live Processes?

Live Processes allows Citizen Developers to create and manage no-code apps directly in the run-time environment and through the end user’s browser-based Work Portal. The feature does not require any additional installation or configuration for the user: it is ready to use as soon as the user has access to the Work Portal.

With Live Processes, Citizen Developers can build and launch simple process applications created with no coding effort. They can use the simple and intuitive features to create workflows, forms, allocations, and no-code business rules, among others.

This feature is helpful for non-complex, day-to-day manual processes when formal process architecture oversight is not required. Live Processes is aimed to non-technical users from across the business, allowing them to have an easy and ready-to-use, executable Bizagi process in a matter of minutes. This feature frees up resources from IT and empowers business users to solve simple challenges independently without waiting for IT resources to have some free time.

Since the launch of Live Processes, we have seen users worldwide adopt this feature as part of their strategy. Tons of simple processes have been automated, seeing benefits including reducing cycle times, improving agility and productivity, and saving money across the organization.

Now, we are taking Live Processes to the next level and creating more robust apps while keeping the feature's simplicity and ease of use. We are proud to present the new feature for Live Processes...

Share Processes from Studio to Live Processes

With this new feature, the idea is to create a natural and constant collaborative environment between Citizen Developers and Developers. Our objective is to keep the premise of No-code for Live Processes but add additional power by reusing complex processes created by Developers in Studio.

The work interaction operates like so:

1. A Citizen Developer starts the automation and creation of a simple app through Live Processes. At some point in the process, it may require a technical aspect that surpasses end-users' technical skills, such as integration with an external system, a complex validation, the interaction of an RPA bot. A request needs be raised with the Developers to complete the app.

2. A Developer can use the power of Bizagi Studio to create a process with any technical requirement needed by Citizen Developers. It must be defined as a sub-process and may contain any technical specification such as web services invocation, different types of connectors, widgets, RPA bots, and complex business rules to validate or populate information registered by a user. Once the process is complete, the Developer can share the Process, so it is available in Live Processes. To make it public, the Developer must define the Name, Inputs, and Outputs.

3. Once the process has been published and is available in Live Processes, the Citizen Developer can reuse it in any App. We want to keep Live Processes the simple and intuitive, so we have created a new type of task in the modeling area called the “Shared process task.” When selected, the Citizen Developer will find a list of all processes shared from Studio. Once a process is set, the only requirements are to map inputs and outputs. The Citizen Developer must think of these shared processes as a magic black box; it receives the data as an input, magic happens in the box, and you get your desired result – ta dah!

This new feature opens the door to creating robust apps with Live Processes. Boundaries have expanded, and the possibilities are now enormous. You won’t have any more technical restrictions for a Live Process, helping to keep collaboration and communication flowing through your organization and keep Business and IT working for better outcomes for all.
